First Ever REMI Attempt for BIIF Sports

HILO, HI – After weeks of planning and testing, engineers from Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island have figured out how to engineer a remote integration model style live stream where the cameras were streaming from Hilo, and mixed live on Oʻahu.

KVIKS Media provided the camera equipment and intercom system, while the Waiakea High School Live Production team ran the cameras. On Oʻahu, crew from Two Shrugs operated the switcher, graphics, shading and replay. Commentating all the way from his dorm room in Washington state was KVIKS alumnus Kai Hayashida.

Streamed live to the Hawaii News Now website, the Hilo High Vikings swept the Connections PCS ʻIo on their senior night.

Challenges such as intercom communications between crew, as well as connecting the cameras directly to the internet were met with macgyvered solutions. However, in the spirit of, “if it works, donʻt touch it” this broadcast came to reality.

What does this mean for the future of BIIF sports? Stay tuned to find out!
