MOANALUA, HI – With over 702 student participants from throughout the State of Hawaiʻi and a single high school from Texas, excitement was in the air as the students hyped each other up for the closing ceremony of the fourth annual, Shoots Summit Hawaii. Sitting the back of the auditorium were the Hilo High School delegation made up of KVIKS Media students and advisors. Feeling the anxious nerves, the time has come to see if all that work and preparation was worth it. They know that in their heart, they were proud of the work they submitted as part of the challenging competition.
The event ended in immense celebration for two of our teams, and tearful reflection for the remaining three. Our Short Film team, composed of Tyra Le, Van Anh Nguyen, and Chloe “Chriss” Yanagisawa placed 3rd in the high school division. It was their first time competing at Shoots Summit Hawaii. This was the second time Hilo High School sent a Short Film team, and first team to place in that category.
Our Public Service Announcement Live Action team, composed of Kai Bowlin, Landan Lopez and Rayden Rice placed 2nd in the high school division. This was their second time competing at Shoots Summit Hawaii, and the second time they placed in this category.
With many schools competing for the top three in each category, it is an incredible honor to place at all. That is why we celebrate these accomplishments.
To the other members of our delegation, you put in the work, you beat the challenge, you met the deadline, and you brought your best. Never forget all the other accomplishments and contributions you have made at Hilo High School, KVIKS Media, and even on your own. You are all wellsprings of talent, and let this competition be a launching pad of your ongoing journey.
All your failures lead to your success.
