On Friday, August 30, 2024, the Hilo High Vikings played their first regular season tackle football game this school year. Upon special request submitted by the team mom, KVIKS Media accepted the request to broadcast the game at Keaʻau High School. It is unusual for KVIKS Media to broadcast away games as other schools tend to have their own streaming policy and we avoid trying to compete with them as much as possible. We are thankful to the Hilo High Athletics Department for acquiring permission from the Keaʻau High School Athletic Director to broadcast the game.
As it was the first broadcast of the school year, and KVIKS Media is just starting to get our new crew up to speed, we only anticipated to broadcast the varsity game. However, due to the rising interest from viewers, we broadcasted the last half of the junior varsity game to a sizable viewership. The varsity broadcast received many colorful comments in the live chat. We would like to remind our viewers that there are reasonable community guidelines to follow while participating in live chat.
We thank our dedicated crew of KVIKS Media Advisors and Crew Members for working over 12 hours to prepare, set up, operate and clean up a broadcast away from campus on a holiday weekend.
